Adult Learning
We at ASERT have thought long and hard about the principle that drives our training and teaching methods. The central concept around which everything revolves is adult learning. In contrast to teaching children and adolescents, we train and teach individuals who are self-motivated, busy, focused on their careers, and function within organizations.
Changes in Thinking
ASERT designs its programs not only to impart new information to clients' target audiences, but also to alter the way those audiences see a situation. A change in thinking is the second step in the process of changing behavior, which in turn leads to changes in the marketplace.
Changes in Behavior
ASERT programs have a built-in bias toward action. Quite often we incorporate pull-through and in-field tactics in our training and education programs. In this way our clients get learning (the transmission and absorption of information) and changes in thinking (a different way of seeing an old problem), as well as sustained changes in behavior (acting on new knowledge and a new way of looking at it).
The Method We Use
ASERT uses a systematic approach (with variations where appropriate) to each project it accepts:
- Discovery (research): ASERT helps the client identify the issues and challenges as well as the resources and tools (informational and human) available.
- Needs Assessment: ASERT determines what clients need and don't need to achieve their goals. We do a root-cause analysis that addresses the underlying cause of a problem, not just the symptoms.
- Planning: With the problem identified, ASERT develops the appropriate learning strategy-with its emphasis on action learning and real world application-along with a roadmap for the successful implementation of the plan.
- Tactics Formulation: Not only does ASERT develop customer-specific tactics that fulfill the project plan, be we also put in place a feedback process by means of which we continuously measure progress against the plan.
- Tool deployment: ASERT has an inventory of proven tools that have been used successfully in the past. These tools can be customized to meet specific client needs. ASERT will also create new tools if the situation calls for it.
- Content Development: ASERT draws on its substantial knowledge and experience to create informed and cogent writing, compelling visualization of information and intuitive user interface design, all of which facilitate optimal learning.
- Meeting Management: So in addition to analyzing problems, formulating solutions and developing curricula and content, we can work with you to create the proper environment for effective learning to take place. ASERT can run any meeting for any audience of any size in any place for any purpose.
How We Teach
ASERT uses blended teaching-learning strategies across a variety of media that appeal to all learning styles. We develop programs for all forms of interaction: presentations, role play, one-to-many learning, one-on-one learning, automated, self-paced learning as well as distance learning and much more.
